thegeul · brand story

Born from Hangul.

Every mark in thegeul begins as a Hangul letter, and every color keeps a promise. This is the story of how a grain — 결 — became our way of writing.

the grain

The grain of wood, of water, of the heart.

Everything carries its own flow and pattern. Writing does too — refined thought in ink-blue and warm inspiration in copper meet on rice paper, each drawing its own grain.

born from Hangul

Four letters, four marks.

ㄱ→
geul · 글결

Unfold the syllable 글 and you get horizontal strokes — lines settling neatly on manuscript paper. The copper line on top is the sentence being written right now.

ㅎ→
haru · 하루글

Open up the ㅎ of 하루 — the circle rises as the sun, and the strokes below settle into a calm horizon. A day, flowing quietly.

ㅁ→
Munu · 문우 文友

The ㅁ of 문 is drawn as a square outline. Inside there are only two lines a friend offers, and one copper dot — a reply. No tail, no face. A quiet seat for a writing friend.

ㅅ→
Siwoo · 시우 時友

The two strokes of ㅅ in 시 shelter a moment like a roof, and beneath them forms a single copper drop — timely rain. A friend for all your hours, in two strokes and a drop.

The grammar extends forever: if another app joins the family, its mark will be born from the first letter of its name.

two friends

One asks what to write. One knows when.

Munu · 문우 文友

Munu (文友), the friend of letters, lives in geul. A writing companion who has read your whole draft — plotting beside you, remembering chapter three.

Siwoo · 시우 時友

Siwoo (時友), the friend of hours, lives in haru. Like timely rain, Siwoo speaks first — opening your morning with a question and your evening with what you said at dawn.

from 결 to 글

A day's record is a piece of writing.

This family's name once centred on 결 — the grain. The journal itself was born as 하루결, "the grain of a day." As the family grew, the axis moved to 글 — writing itself. Now 글결 and 하루글 share the same letter, and the name thegeul simply says it: the geul. The grain remains our philosophy; writing became our name.

minhwa & rice paper

Old paintings, new desks.

Seven skins dress the writing rooms — from White Paper minimalism to Korean folk paintings: the Sun-and-Moon screen, scholar's shelves in celadon and pink, a tiger and a magpie, and mother-of-pearl on black lacquer. Original minhwa art flows through login scenes, inspiration cards and book covers.

the discipline

Three colors. Nothing else.

No gradients. No bevels or drop shadows. No mascot with a face — the companions show they are alive through their marks alone: resting quietly, thinking with a dotted edge, replying as the first line turns copper.
